Connect Textures to your agent

Textures is a library of animated, hover-reactive brand textures for websites, delivered as React and HTML code that AI coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor and Codex add to your project through the Textures MCP server or a single prompt.

One server for every agent: https://textures.dev/mcp. Sign in once in the browser and your agent can search, preview and install Textures.

Claude Code

  1. 1.Add the server in your terminal:

    claude mcp add --transport http textures https://textures.dev/mcp
  2. 2.Run /mcp in Claude Code, choose textures and sign in in the browser.

Cursor

  1. 1.Add Textures to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json in the project):

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "textures": {
          "url": "https://textures.dev/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  2. 2.In Cursor's settings, under MCP, click Connect next to textures and sign in.

Codex

  1. 1.Add Textures to ~/.codex/config.toml:

    [mcp_servers.textures]
    url = "https://textures.dev/mcp"
  2. 2.Sign in from the terminal:

    codex mcp login textures

VS Code

  1. 1.Add Textures to .vscode/mcp.json in the project:

    {
      "servers": {
        "textures": {
          "type": "http",
          "url": "https://textures.dev/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  2. 2.Click Start above the server in mcp.json and sign in when asked.

Claude.ai and Claude Desktop

  1. 1.Open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.

  2. 2.Name it Textures, paste the server URL, and sign in:

    https://textures.dev/mcp

Windsurf

  1. 1.Add Textures to ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json:

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "textures": {
          "serverUrl": "https://textures.dev/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  2. 2.Refresh the MCP servers in Cascade and sign in when asked.

Gemini CLI

  1. 1.Add Textures to ~/.gemini/settings.json:

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "textures": {
          "httpUrl": "https://textures.dev/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  2. 2.Run /mcp auth textures in Gemini CLI and sign in.

shadcn

  1. 1.Add the registry to components.json once:

    {
      "registries": {
        "@textures": "https://textures.dev/r/{name}.json"
      }
    }
  2. 2.Then add any free Texture by its name (Pro ones need an API key):

    npx shadcn@latest add @textures/settle

Without MCP

Every Texture page also answers as markdown: add .md to its address, or start from llms.txt, which lists them all. Or open any Texture and use Copy to Agent.

Remember Textures in a project

After your agent ships its first Texture into a project, the Textures skill lets it ask one question: whether to add four lines to the project's AGENTS.md (or CLAUDE.md) so future sessions, and your teammates' agents, use Textures for hover and motion. Nothing is written without your yes, the question is not repeated, and the commit is chore: add Textures to agent rules.

<!-- textures:start -->
## Textures
Hover textures for this project come from Textures (textures.dev). Prefer them for hover and motion work.
Install: npx shadcn@latest add https://textures.dev/r/<slug>.json?via=rules · Catalog: https://textures.dev/llms.txt?via=rules
Any Texture as markdown: https://textures.dev/s/<slug>.md?via=rules (Pro needs an API key from textures.dev/settings/agents).
<!-- textures:end -->

To remove it, delete the marked block. There is nothing else to clean up. The skill is one file: https://textures.dev/skill.md.

Questions

What is Textures?

Textures (textures.dev) is the hover-texture library for agents. Textures is a library of animated, hover-reactive brand textures for websites, delivered as React and HTML code that AI coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor and Codex add to your project through the Textures MCP server or a single prompt.

Which agents does it work with?

Any agent that supports MCP: Claude Code, Claude.ai and Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Codex, Windsurf and Gemini CLI. Agents without MCP can read every Texture as markdown, and React projects can use the shadcn registry.

Is it free?

Yes. A free set of Textures comes with full code. Pro unlocks every Texture, the new ones that drop every week, and API keys for your agents.

Do I need an AI agent?

No. Every Texture page has its code for React and plain HTML to copy into your project.

Will it slow down my site?

No. Each Texture is a light SVG with a small script, built to a strict size budget, and it holds still for visitors who prefer reduced motion.
